Why do I have to register to use BMJ Learning?
We ask you to register so that you have your own individual record of your learning plan on the BMJ Learning website. The plan is strictly confidential to you.
How do I register for BMJ Learning?
To register you will need a username (please provide a valid email address) and a password of your choice (this must be six characters long). The registration process is simple and will only take a minute to complete.
What do you do with my registration information?
This information is kept strictly confidential, the questions we ask you on the registration form enable us to provide you with the most relevant content suitable for your profession or specialty. Read our Privacy Policy for more information.
What if I forget my username and password?

My details have changed - what do I do?
You can update my details at any time, here you can change your profession, email address, and contact details. There is no need for you to re-register.
Can I access the site from home or the office?
You will be able to use the same username and sign in from any computer terminal - at home or in the office. If you change your email address there is no need to re-register, just use the update my details tab to ensure the most up to date information about yourself is listed.
I am a BMA member. How do I access BMJ Learning?
BMA members will be asked to provide their BMA membership number when completing the registration form. This will enable you to access the relevant modules for your specialty.
Is BMJ Learning relevant to me?
Any healthcare professional will benefit from using BMJ Learning - there are specific categories for GPs, GP trainees, hospital doctors, foundation year doctors, practice nurses, and practice managers. Coming soon, we shall have an additional option of "other health care professional" for you to choose, if you do not fall into the previous categories.
Can I receive CPD/CME points by completing a module?
At BMJ Learning GP CPD we are delighted to work in association with the Royal College of General Practitioners. GPs who complete learning modules can use these as evidence in their appraisals.
Consultants and SAS doctors (and others who need to) can gain credits by completing learning modules. The Plan and Record facility keeps a track record of your learning - ideal to print off for your appraisal. Any user can also print off a certificate to show they have completed and passed a module.
Are the learning modules on BMJ Learning accredited?
Online CME on BMJ Learning is accredited by EPASS - the accrediting unit of the Royal College of GPs in the UK. The Royal New Zealand College of General Practitioners also accredits the learning modules.
Do I need to pay to use BMJ Learning?
BMJ Learning is free of charge to BMA members, if your institution has purchased access, or if you are from a developing country (part of the HINARI initiative). Otherwise, to access the full range of learning modules relevant to your speciality/profession you will need to pay a subscription fee. We do have a selection of free modules available so that you can try out the interactive modules before you buy. The Plan and Record and specific curriculum relevant to your profession is free to access. View our subscription charges.

Is VAT payable on subscriptions?
Any tax payable is automatically calculated for you online. Online-only access is subject to 17.5% tax for customers from EU countries. Countries outside the UK are exempt if you provide a VAT registration number.

How long will my subscription last?
Your subscription to the learning modules will last one year.
When can I start accessing the learning modules?
Once you have completed the registration process, you will be able to access the free modules immediately. If you require a subscription, as soon as you have made your online payment, you will be granted access to the full range of learning modules, relevant to your profession, instantly. For other methods of payment, direct debit, by post, or telephone, there may be some delay whilst we process your details. You will be informed when you can start accessing the modules.
Where do I start? What modules should I be completing?
The homepage has been designed to help you find the modules relevant to your learning needs. There will be a selection of popular modules available including the "Editor's Choice" - the must-do modules updated each fortnight. You will also be able to use the "search" facility to find the topics you are interested in.
How long does a module take to complete?
Every module is different but on average it will take you about 30 minutes to complete a module from start to finish. Don't worry if you get interrupted, save the module into your Plan and Record and you can start from where you left off.
How do I find out when a new module is published?
If you have signed up for email alerts you will be alerted when new content is published relevant to your profession. You can find the most recent modules on the homepage, along with our Editor's Choice - the "must-do" module updated each fortnight.
How can I search for a module?
You can use the "Search" button to enable you to find a specific topic, for example "diabetes." This will provide you with a listing of all of the modules available within this topic relevant to your professional category. The "Advanced search" button will enable you to provide more detail, for example "atrial fibrillation." This will provide you with a listing of all of the modules within this topic, please note, some modules may be relevant to a different professional category from your profile. There will be an additional fee to access these modules.
How often is BMJ Learning updated?
BMJ Learning publishes brand new content on a regular basis. We also monitor our existing modules and provide new updated information if there have been any changes to practice in the relevant area.
Where does BMJ Learning get the content from?
As a leading medical publisher, BMJ Group has many links worldwide to key authors, editors, and experts in their field. We utilise these contacts to bring you the most up-to-date, validated, informed, evidence based material which we then produce into interactive modules.
How is BMJ Learning funded?
BMJ Learning receives income from a range of sources to ensure wide and affordable access while maintaining full editorial independence. BMJ Learning receives income from the BMA to provide free access to BMA members. It receives an unrestricted educational grant from univadis, a portal for healthcare professionals provided by MSD (Merck Sharp & Dohme), to provide free access for univadis users across Europe, in English and other languages. It also contracts with a range of bodies including the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence to produce custom learning modules. Where a module has been created under contract, this is indicated clearly on the module. Where advertising is carried, the advertisers have no involvement with the editorial content.

How can I make a bulk order for my institution?
Access to BMJ Learning modules can be purchased as site licences for institutions, libraries, hospitals, and for other groups of health professionals. For institutional subscription rates, please contact our sales team (consortiasales@bmjgroup.com) or telephone +44 (0)20 7383 6693. Discounted rates are available for institutions subscribing to multiple online resources from BMJ Group.
Can I access BMJ Learning via Athens?
Institutional subscribers within the UK are able to access BMJ Learning via Athens authentication. First the institution/organisation must register with Athens, second, the Athens ID must be associated with your institutional account. I am from a developing country - what do I need to do to access the learning modules?
If you are from a developing country you will be able to access the resources free. Your IP address will identify your country and enable you to access the site. Click on the link to check your country status: http://www.bmjjournals.com/subscriptions/countries.shtml
Is BMJ Learning available in other languages?
Currently, BMJ Learning is available only in the English language.
